How did you get started as a photographer?
I met my wife and started photography with her. It was landscapes and animals at first. Soon I found a great sense of satisfaction when photographing people and showing them how good they look. All my life I had not realised the power of photography in this way. The way a mum would cry when seeing the portrait of their child, or people who simply didn’t know they could look so good.
What did life look like before photography?
Computer programming, which could also be seen as a creative field.
Tell us about a day in the life of a professional photographer …
We get up early and clean the studio before a client arrives. Making sure when they come in it’s like visiting a hotel – everything is perfect in its place. The photo sessions are fun and relaxed, and go quickly. Clients go to lunch, while we prepare their photographs for their Design Consultation. They come back and see their photographs in a theatre experience. When it’s all done, we reset the studio again and backup all the photographs and start editing.
Do you have a special story to share?
He was going to propose during the session. We kept it a secret, firstly got her to tell him why she loved him. Then it was his turn. Gave him the signal, then as he was talking he got on one knee and brought out the ring. She was so surprised! We got all the sequence, from shock to realisation to joy.
If you could photograph 1 thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

What is the best thing about your job?
We meet and take part in the journeys of others. Each time we have a new client, they leave a bit of their story with us, and we leave a bit of us with them. It’s amazing to see families grow through the years.
Tell us something we don’t know about professional photography …
Using the camera is the smallest part of the process. All the magic comes from getting to know you before hand, knowing your story, and then designing your artwork that shows off your story.
