Tracy Jilbert Photography, Warragul VIC

How did you get started as a photographer?

I’ve always loved taking photos even as a kid – in my teens, I had a Kodak Hanimex camera which went places with me, from there the love grew & a friend gave me a Pentax ME SLR and the passion just took off! People kept asking me to take their photos.. and the rest is history.

What did life look like before photography?

I have a degree in Sports Administration and I’ve worked in Sports/Recreation, Travel and Event Management industries.

Tell us about a day in the life of a professional photographer …

Haha.. my dream day would be… but haven’t done a lot of the for a while….
School Run..
Business stuff or photoshoot
School Run
After school activities
Editing or Social Media stuff.

Any memorable moments?

It was an honour to be asked to photograph Teen Cancer Patient Skylar and her family. Skylar is an amazing young person with strength courage & grace far beyond her years. She had never had her makeup done professionally and a special wig was organised for her as well. She adored dressing up in a tulle and lace and lounging in my big black chair surrounded by yards of tulle! Skylar has such a positive vibe and energy and I loved hearing all about her own style of digital photographic artwork. Skylar has definitely left a wonderful and ever lasting impression on my heart and her family are just as lovely.

If you could photograph 1 thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Personally = my family for generations to come
Professionally = Fine Art Glamour

What is the best thing about your job?

Getting to hear the stories of peoples lives and knowing that what I capture is going to be with them for generations to come.

Tell us something we don’t know about professional photography …

I edit all the photos I take individually and my products are all professional quality with archival grade prints.

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?

Hmmm… not quite sure… Event management probably.

Here’s a blank cheque! What are you going to spend it on for your business?

A new Canon EOS R5 with a couple of different lenses! And one of those fabulous super duper Macs with lots of space & ram!

If you could photograph someone famous, who would it be and why?

Really good question… hmmm
Robin Williams
Barack or Michelle Obama
Duchess Kate
Celeste Barber
All because they have amazing stories to tell.
