How did you get started as a photographer?

Before I ‘officially’ became a photographer, I always had a camera in my hand, it became something I always wanted to do “one day”, but never truly pursued until life pushed me into it. After being diagnosed with a rare form of migraine, which cause me to have a condition called MdDs, as I like to refer to it “sea-legs” making you feel as if you’re bobbing on land – (talk about winning the health lotto haha!) I was out of work, and as someone who is constantly busy, it was a real shock to the system more so than having this frustrating condition. I had to step back and think of what I could create for my new life, that would give me purpose and make my soul happy and photography was always something I wanted to pursue. It gave me the freedom to set my own hours, connect with people and the space to recover and come to place where my condition wasn’t controlling my life anymore.

What did life look like before photography?

Before photography I worked in child care, and later on, retail management.

Tell us about a day in the life of a professional photographer …

Besides surviving on caffeine and fighting the procrastination of editing – the life of a professional photographer is a lot of connecting with people, learning about their lives.
It’s long hours in-front of a computer screen making beautiful memories come to life, and a whoooole lot of washing.

Do you have a special story to share?

I have so many funny stories that will mostly involve being pooped or peed on by babies, but my most treasured client story would be being chosen to photograph a rainbow baby after a loss of a child. Trusted to make something special and honour the memory of their loved one is something that still makes me tear up.

If you could photograph 1 thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Give me alllll the babies!

What is the best thing about your job?

The best part is being welcomed into clients homes and those people becoming friends. I love hearing everyone’s stories and journeys, especially the journey to motherhood – it’s so inspiring.

Tell us something we don’t know about professional photography …

You’d be amazed by how many snacks we consume while editing – it is a problem.

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?

I would most likely be painting, art is something close to my heart and if I wasn’t a photographer I’d probably be somewhere covered in paint wearing super daggy overalls.

Here’s a blank cheque! What are you going to spend it on for your business?

Hmmm… if I could go back in time and photograph Frida Kahlo I feel like that would be such a creative combination and she’d have a lot of stories to tell about life, loss and perseverance.

If you could photograph someone famous, who would it be and why?

Hmmm… if I could go back in time and photograph Frida Kahlo I feel like that would be such a creative combination and she’d have a lot of stories to tell about life, loss and perseverance.
