SARAH THOMPSON PHOTOGRAPHY – KYAMBRAM VIC
How did you get started as a photographer?
After a love of Photography while at school I dabbled a little until I had my third baby and then I decided to study my hobby further. After studying I decided to take the leap into business and I haven’t looked back, I love it!!
What did life look like before photography?
What didn’t I do?! I have worked in child care and nannied, in Travel, at a Pharmacy, an Accountants, Book Keeping and in our own farm business, until I finally found photography. I still have to work for the farm business but Photography is definitely my fave!
Tell us about a day in the life of a professional photographer …
Shoot, edit, edit, edit, snack, social media and edit some more.
Any memorable moments?
Every clients story is a special one and some are maybe more funny than others. The funny ones usually involve wee or poo accidents on the little one’s dad, they always bring on a horrified look from dad and a pretty big chuckle from mum and myself.
If you could photograph 1 thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Newborns without a doubt.
What is the best thing about your job?
Being able to capture incredible moments for beautiful families. Newborn snuggles, and sounds, and cute little faces. Having fun with kids. The reactions when people see their images. Working for myself. Playing with props. That’s just to name a few things.
Tell us something we don’t know about professional photography …
There are many long hours spent perfecting your images but being a photographer doesn’t just stop there. Many photographers like myself are a one man band, we do it all. From the marketing to website management, book keeping, the list just goes on and on.
If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?
Maybe home decorating or something else creative like graphic design.
Here’s a blank cheque! What are you going to spend it on for your business?
This is a HARD question! I’d love an assistant but probably just a bunch of backdrops or props or more camera gear. It’s a blank cheque so maybe even a new studio space, i’m not asking for much am I?
If you could photograph someone famous, who would it be and why?
