Sam Liddicoat – Little Wood Studio, Adelaide Hills SA

How did you get started as a photographer?

I have always loved photography, but having my own children and wanting to capture every moment of the beauty of their childhood pushed me into turning my passion into my business.

What did life look like before photography?

Before photography, I worked as a Junior Primary Teacher, and still plan on going back to teaching in some capacity when my youngest son is older.

Tell us about a day in the life of a professional photographer …

Drop the kids off, prep for a shoot, shoot, pack up, edit, pick the kids up from school, family time, kids sleep, edit.

Any memorable moments?

All my funny stories involve newborns, dads… and poop. It always happens and it’s always funny!

If you could photograph 1 thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Personally, my own children. Professionally, newborns. New life is simply incredible, and I love capturing this amazing time of life for my clients.

What is the best thing about your job?

The best thing about being a professional photographer is being able to combine my passion and love of art and capturing moments in life for clients and often combining these two passions. It’s a creative outlet that gives me joy in the creation process as well as being able to create this for others.

Tell us something we don’t know about professional photography …

In my creative process, I love to make my own bowls and sets for newborn photo sessions. I also love to be inspired by nature or natural textures in this process. You will see some of my hand made creations in my newborn portfolio.

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?

I am still a registered teacher, so if I wasn’t working just in photography, I would be back teaching Junior Primary.

Here’s a blank cheque! What are you going to spend it on for your business?

I would build a stand alone Photography Studio on our property- which is something I plan on doing one day.

If you could photograph someone famous, who would it be and why?

I would be way to nervous to photograph her, but I would love to meet Kelly Brown one day! Her passion for the photography industry and the way she creates, designs, promotes and shares her love for photography through her work and teaching has been a huge inspiration to me.
