How did you get started as a photographer?

I followed my dream!

I have always had a passion for photography, always been fascinated by the ability to capture a single moment in time that will never return.

What did life look like before photography?

After high school I studied towards my bachelor of criminology and criminal justice, I always knew I wanted to be working around children. I was studying to work in child protection.

However life had its owns plans, I met the love of my life at 16, got married at 18, started my own business in early childhood education and care at 19 and welcomed our little boy into this world at 21.

Life was moving soo fast, but my dream of owning my own studio was growing stronger.

Tell us about a day in the life of a professional photographer …

It’s crazy, I think, eat, sleep photography.

If I’m not behind the camera, I’m either editing or prop shopping; always looking for new ideas, whether its outfits for our client wardrobe, props or locations.

Any memorable moments?

I’ll share a special story as this reminds me why my job, as a photographer is important and valid.

I’ve been photographing a beautiful young family for a couple of years now; I first met them while volunteering for the celebrate t21 magazine project.

One morning, I received an unexpected call from my client, I could hear the hurt in her shaky voice, sharing the news that they had lost their home in a house fire.

They lost everything, expect for the clothes they were wearing and their family car. Thankfully no-one was home at the time of the incident.

My client lost her jewellery, laptop, USB’s, keepsakes, heirlooms, all the children’s toys, clothes, photographs, everything.

Being their photographer, I was able to reprint and recreate all of their artwork I had on file.

As a photographer, I’m not only there to document the happy moments, I’m there to remind you of those happy moments when your family is going through tough times.

It’s a package deal.

If you could photograph 1 thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Babies or the Elderly I can’t decide between the two.

What is the best thing about your job?

What I love most about being a professional photographer, is being able to capture and document my clients story at some of the most important and vulnerable times in their life.

Ohhh and baby cuddles, who doesn’t love baby cuddles. Babies smell ahhhh-may-zing!!

Tell us something we don’t know about professional photography …

It’s not because I’ve got a good camera!

Yes, having great equipment is definitely a plus!
But there’s a lot more to producing great artwork than having a great camera.

I build longterm relationships with clients and understand what their expectations and goals are.

I plan sessions months in advance, purchasing and creating props and outfits to make your photographs unique and special to your family.

I spend several hours behind the camera with every client, capturing their story.

I edit all the details to make sure the work I present to my client is a piece of art that they will forever be in awe of the memory created and documented.

I work with my clients to design custom artwork to adorn the walls of your home. They will share your story for many years to come.

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?

I’d be a Child Safety Officer.

Here’s a blank cheque! What are you going to spend it on for your business?

SPACE!!! I’d buy more space to fill with beautiful antique props. In our modern and ever-changing world, antiques and vintage items serve as a reminder of our rich past. I love incorporating bits of vintage details into my newborn set ups.
