How did you get started as a photographer?

I have always been a photographer at heart. As a teenager, I would convince my friends to model for portraits in fields and on train tracks and grungy graffiti walls. I’ve dabbled in landscape photography also but my true love is family photography. Perhaps since having my own family and photographing them and hanging pictures on the walls, my love had only grown. So in 2020 I decided to just start and I’m proud how far my business had come and how much I’ve grown and improved in my first year.

What did life look like before photography?

I have a 10 year background in aged care nursing.

Tell us about a day in the life of a professional photographer …

Wake up, coffee. Get in the car and drive to the beach while it dark to meet a mum to be for maternity photos. Nail that session then head home to edit some pictures. More coffee. More editing. Talking with new clients, planning, organising. More coffee. More editing and then bed.

Any memorable moments?

My favourite thing on shoots is to watch the dads and partners really loosen up. I love to tell their partners to wisper something dirty in his ear or generally just have a laugh and get them comfortable. Once they are laughing we get the best shots and it’s always nice to hear the ladies tell me how special it is because he never smiles in photos.

If you could photograph 1 thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

What is the best thing about your job?

Feeling my creative fire.

Tell us something we don’t know about professional photography …

You work 24/7. Always shooting, editing, communicating, planning, purchasing, researching, the list goes on.

If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?

Caring for the sweet nannies and poppy’s in the nursing home.

Here’s a blank cheque! What are you going to spend it on for your business?

A studio space. I would love to have a studio for newborn and maternity portraits.

If you could photograph someone famous, who would it be and why?

Ruby Rose. Her eyes and features are striking.
