We love sharing these personal profiles of our favourite Australian professional photographers! Find out all about the person behind the lens in our Q&A series.
Elysium Photography, Sydney NSW
How did you get started as a photographer?
My grandfather was a photographer, so it’s been a part of my life pretty much from day one! I learnt on film and developed a passion for black and white film at uni. After having my 2nd baby, I decided to do something that made me truly happy and so Elysium Photography was born.
What did life look like before photography?
I’d worked in a photography studio, I was a digital retoucher for a magazine company and I also worked in printing – all areas that have helped me run my own photography business.
Tell us about a day in the life of a professional photographer …
Wake up, coffee, edit, more coffee, edit, lunch, edit, shoot a session, edit, dinner, edit, sleep!
Do you have a special story to share?
One of my wedding couples have been trying to fall pregnant for over 2 years. They were about to start down the IVF path and then finally fell pregnant naturally – with TWINS!
If you could photograph 1 thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
NEWBORNS – they are the perfect reminder of how tiny and precious my own babies were, because they are so much bigger now.
What is the best thing about your job?
Having a great work – life balance and doing something that makes me truly happy!
Tell us something we don’t know about professional photography …
It is hard! There are days when I am hot, sweaty, sore muscles, and I look disheveled. It is not the glamorous polished lifestyle some think it is. It’s also very costly running your own business.
If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?
Something to do with kids. I love working with kids – they can teach us so many things.
Here’s a blank cheque! What are you going to spend it on for your business?
More camera gear – you can never have enough! There’s always a new lens to add to the wish list!
If you could photograph someone famous, who would it be and why?
I would have loved to photograph Robin Williams. He was my all time FAV actor.
