Capture The Moment By Ana, Sydney NSW
How did you get started as a photographer?
My mum bought me a camera when I was 14 years old and since then I fell in love with photography and I have always had a camera with me everywhere I go. Years back, my colleagues saw my photos and asked me to take photos for them. They loved it and I loved it too because I got paid doing what I love. Since then more paid photo sessions kept coming in and that’s how I started to take this more seriously.
What did life look like before photography?
I was a gaming supervisor at The Star Sydney for 13 years. During that time, I did my photography on my days off.
Tell us about a day in the life of a professional photographer …
Capturing beautiful newborn and family moments is such a fulfilling job for me, those smiles and those happiness are truly amazing.
Any memorable moments?
I normally prefer my newborn babies in outfits during the session but one day I had my new prop arrived from USA and I was super excited and couldn’t wait to use it on my next session.
Parents came in with a beautiful newborn baby girl and I told mum about my new prop and if we could do one naked pose on that prop because it’d look so amazing. Mum had no issues with it but she did say ‘Oh but she poops all the time and a lot’. And I was thinking in my head ‘How can that be?’
Then I setup the prop and everything was ready to go, I checked her nappy and it was clean so I slowly took it off. While I was holding her naked in my hands, she started to poop. I thought it was just going to be a little bit so I kept going. But it didn’t stop. She did poop a lot and yes mum was right! I had to clean her up and put on the new nappy on her quickly. We all were just laughing hard. That was hilarious! We got so many beautiful images for them though and they chose the album for their baby session. They loved it and they kept talking about funny her baby’s session was when they came back to pick up their products at the studio. It was very funny!
If you could photograph 1 thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Newborn babies for sure.
What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about being a professional photographer is that we have been given a lot of opportunity to capture beautiful moments for so many family. As for me, clients actually help me too, knowing other people value my work is just making me feel amazing too.
Tell us something we don’t know about professional photography …
Being a professional photographer can be a little bit complicated sometimes. There’re problems in front of us and we need to think quick to solve that problem in timely manner. Another thing I find is people thought we were photoshop-master. Their expectations can be unreal if we don’t communicate with them well enough.
If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?
Maybe a librarian or writing field.
Here’s a blank cheque! What are you going to spend it on for your business?
New camera and lens.
If you could photograph someone famous, who would it be and why?
Angelina Jolie. Because she is so gorgeous and her eyes are so beautiful. Her family is one of the most diverse families. To be able to photograph her and her 6 kids would be a big honour and incredibly amazing!
