How did you get started as a photographer?
I’ve always had a love for photography and creativity with light since I was little. I used to take photos and loved how the light changed them and made them interesting. When I decided to turn my love into my business, and that I didn’t need to sleep anymore, I decided to balance study and work and became qualified in Design – Specialising in Photography. When I graduated, I created my business which is full-time where I have expanded to do portraits, weddings and corporate photography.
What did life look like before photography?
I was a mum, Defence spouse travelling around Australia and mostly worked in the legal industry, while raising my girls and living an amazing life, always with a camera in my hand.
Tell us about a day in the life of a professional photographer …
There is so much to do! I spend my day enjoying my business. Interacting with people! Replying and sending emails, admin, nurturing existing and new clients. Designing and marketing, shooting and editing, packaging and visiting clients with their orders. There is lots to do and I love every moment.
Do you have a special story to share?
My very first wedding! When I was getting to know the couple and I asked them about their story, I just love their story! They met, Sammy went overseas, Sean decided she was the one so he dropped everything to go and find her in Italy. He literally followed her around the world.
If you could photograph 1 thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
If I could photograph one thing for the rest of my life, it would be whatever would makes someone feel good about themselves. Nothing beats that feeling, ever!
What is the best thing about your job?
The best thing about being a professional photographer is the freedom to spend my time making people happy. I’m such a people pleaser it makes my day creating and making someone’s memories come to life!
Tell us something we don’t know about professional photography …
Being a professional photographer means we don’t just turn up and start clicking. The amount of work we put into the background, preparing, planning and creating the perfect photoshoot for our clients everytime is often surprising to everyone.
If you weren’t a photographer, what would you be doing?
I would still have a camera in my hand annoying all of my family and friends and loving life. So I guess I’d always be a photographer in some form. And probably living in a small coastal town!
Here’s a blank cheque! What are you going to spend it on for your business?
There is always gear, that never ends. BUT, I would like to put it towards funding a project supporting Defence Veterans and first responders.
If you could photograph someone famous, who would it be and why?
If I could photograph anyone famous, I’d love it to be Elton John. He is so intelligent, creative and interesting. He’s quirky and yet so serious. I would love to capture every emotion and find that photo that is him, that he would love.
