Favourite Four Friday with…

Welcome to our weekly blog *Favourite Four Friday*. Every week we will be asking a guest photographer to share with us their four favourite photos… the photos they have taken that they love the most… and share with you the reasons why. We adore the idea of knowing what images connect to and inspire an artist most.

FAVOURITE FOUR FRIDAY WITH BONNIE ELLISON

This week we are excited to be featuring the imagery created by Bonnie Ellison of Mummy-n-Me Photography, located south of Brisbane in Queensland. Like so many in the family photography industry, Bonnie’s love of photography blossomed from a desire to have beautiful photos with her own children, and almost 10 years ago Mummy-n-Me was born. Bonnie is mostly a natural light and outdoor on location photographer, but has recently incorporated studio lighting. Here are her favourite photos and the reasons why these images sing to her own heart…

MUMMY-N-ME PHOTOGRAPHY

I love this image! It happens to be of my daughter. It was only the second time I had tried to shoot this type of studio set up. I had been playing with my studio lights for nearly two years, since we moved into a new house. Before then I was purely a natural light photographer. This is the culmination of that two years of learning.

Spring green. Is there anything more warming to the heart than spring. The birds come out of hiding, the sun starts to warm the air and life begins to flourish once again. I love this image for not only for it’s colour but for its connection. We were shooting an extended family session and it had been a crazy afternoon. Finally, we stepped away to capture one last image and I love how calm it is.

This is a more recent image from the end of last year. It’s special to me because of how special it is to the family. This daddy had been away serving his country for most of their first daughters life. Barely seeing his family, he had finally retired, just in time for their new little man to join their family. For me, this image not only represent’s new life but also a new beginning for this family.

Colour, of any sort used to scare me. Now I have realised, that adding just the right amount can take a nice image and elevate it to the next level. Although this is very subtle, with just the addition of the green ferns and headband, it was way out of my comfort zone. Learning to use colours and textures in different ways helps me piece together newborn set ups my clients love and treasure. I love this image for it’s simple, elegant feel. And let’s face it. She looks just so darn gorgeous!
